The Arrow 11, February 2025: With Robert Vines

Welcome to “The Arrow 11” – our monthly feature where we highlight our best and brightest through 11 thought-provoking questions.
This month, we talk about resilience, leadership, and personal growth with Robert Vines, Regional VP, Shelters & Subsidized Housing
1. How did you come to work in security?
34 years ago, my son was born, which inspired me to provide the opportunities I didn’t have growing up. This determination led me to secure my first job at FJC Security, a pivotal moment in my journey.
2. What is your favorite activity or hobby?
Self-education is something I value deeply. I’ve never relied on others to improve myself—it’s always been up to me to continue refining my craft. Another hobby I enjoy is having an occasional cigar with close friends, some of whom I’ve known for over 40 years.
3. What is your favorite quote, motto, or mantra?
Denzel Washington once said, “King Kong has nothing on me.” This mantra resonates with me because it embodies my approach to challenges and doubters.
4. What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
“Never give up. Pain is temporary—it may last a day, a month, or even a year. But sooner or later, it will subside. If you quit, however, it will last a lifetime.”
5. What person do you believe has had the greatest influence on your life, and why?
My family, especially my grandchildren, has had the greatest influence on me. They are my “why” and fuel my dedication each day.
6. Is there a personal/professional challenge you’ve overcome, and what did you learn from it?
Making tough decisions has been a significant challenge, especially when considering the impact they have on people’s lives. I’ve learned to navigate these situations by providing support and ensuring everyone has the chance to succeed, helping them push through any obstacles they encounter.
7. What does success mean to you, both personally and professionally?
Success means achieving the goals I set out to accomplish. It’s about not blaming others for failures, staying focused on the goal, and pushing through to the finish line. In a professional sense, it’s about helping others grow, pushing them to limits they never dreamed of reaching. Personally, it means being the best version of myself for my family and friends.
8. What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
Most people don’t know that I have five grown children, aged 32, 31, 30, 29, and 28, along with six grandchildren.
9. What was your favorite travel/vacation destination, or what place is top of your list to travel next?
Looking ahead, I’m excited to explore new places, especially Spain, with a loved one. I also look forward to cherishing more precious moments with my family.
10. What is your favorite book or author, and why?
As an avid reader of motivational literature, I find authors like Les Brown and Eric Thomas incredibly inspiring. Their words help me keep pushing forward, no matter the adversity.
11. What motivates you to come to work here at Arrow Security?
My team. We face many challenges, but they never give up. They work tirelessly, and I would go to great lengths for them. Their resilience is in their DNA. I also enjoy making a difference and helping the company grow, because it feels like it’s my company too. I love supporting our field staff—without them, there is no us. With strong leadership and ownership, we’re able to have fun while doing great work together.
