This month we spoke with: Mario Laboy, Vice President, Administrative Operations
1. How did you come to work in security?
I transitioned to security from a different field, where I found myself increasingly interested in the role of risk management and crisis prevention. I was drawn to security because it involves proactive problem-solving, strategic thinking, and protecting what matters most to people. This shift was motivated by my desire to take on new challenges and work in a field that has a direct impact on others’ safety and well-being.
2. What makes you feel safe and secure?
Feeling safe and secure often comes from the people around me. Having a reliable support system, whether it’s family, friends, or colleagues, gives me a strong foundation. Knowing I have people I can count on, and who can count on me, creates a sense of security in my personal and professional life.
3. What are you most passionate about outside of work?
My passion outside of work centers around spending quality time with family and friends. I prioritize creating meaningful moments with loved ones, whether it’s through weekend gatherings, travel, or just enjoying good conversation. This time keeps me grounded and reminds me of what’s truly important.
4. What is your favorite activity or hobby?
I have a passion for cooking and experimenting in the kitchen. I enjoy trying out new recipes and learning about different cuisines. Cooking is a creative outlet for me, and it’s incredibly rewarding to create something delicious to share with others.
5. How would you describe the perfect day off?
My ideal day off would be quality time with family and friends. I’d love to have a laid-back brunch together, spend the day catching up, maybe play some games, or just enjoy good conversations. Ending the day with a cozy dinner would make it perfect.
6. What is your favorite quote, motto, or mantra?
The motto I live by is, ‘Small steps every day.’ It reminds me that even small efforts add up over time and that consistency is key to achieving my personal and professional goals.
7. What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
The best advice I received was to ‘Stay true to who you are.’ It reminds me to make choices that align with my values and to trust my instincts. This has helped me make decisions that feel right, even if they’re challenging or unconventional.
8. What person or event do you believe has had the greatest influence on your life, and why?
The person who has had the greatest influence on my life is my wife. She has taught me the importance of hard work, integrity, and resilience. Watching how she handled life’s ups and downs has inspired me to approach challenges with a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.
9. Is there a personal challenge you’ve overcome, and what did you learn from it?
I faced a challenge in learning how to balance my demanding work schedule with personal life. At one point, I found myself overwhelmed and burned out. To overcome this, I implemented time management strategies and prioritized self-care. This experience taught me the importance of setting boundaries and making time for personal well-being, which ultimately improves my productivity and overall happiness.
10. What does success mean to you, both personally and professionally?
I believe success is about adaptability and the willingness to learn. Personally, it means embracing new experiences and challenges that foster growth. Professionally, it involves being open to change, seeking feedback, and continuously improving my skills and knowledge.
11. What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
I absolutely love cooking!
